SRAM (Static Random Access Memory) was invented in 1963 at Fairchild Electronics and was the main driver behind the CMOS fabrication process that had been invented in 1959.
The main difference to DRAM is that it does not require a continuous power refresh resulting in low power consumption when the memory is idle. It is faster but more expensive and less dense than DRAM.
SRAM is a fast and reliable memory that is widely used as a CPU or GPU cache in computers, routers, printers, or LCD screens.
